The lady who raised a chimp like a human

In a story that sounds more like a movie than reality, a woman named Sandra made an unusual decision—she bought a chimpanzee and decided to raise him as if he were human. Along with her husband, Jerry, they paid a whopping $50,000 to bring the chimp into their home, naming him Travis.

Sandra and Jerry treated Travis like a child from the moment he arrived. They bottle-fed him, dressed him in clothes, and even let him sleep in a crib right next to their bed. Travis quickly became more than just a pet—he was a full-fledged member of the family.

They taught him how to use the toilet and eat meals at the dinner table, just like a human. Travis even accompanied Sandra and Jerry to restaurants, where he sat politely with them, much to the amusement of the locals. As time passed, Travis became somewhat of a local celebrity. Everyone in town loved him for his charm and unique human-like behavior.

However, as Travis grew older and entered puberty, his behavior started to change. The once-adorable chimp was now showing signs of aggression. The turning point came one evening when Sandra, Jerry, and Travis were out for a drive. They stopped at an intersection in the heart of downtown when, out of the blue, a random passerby threw an empty soda bottle through the car window.

What happened next was something no one could have predicted. Travis, who had always been calm and friendly, became agitated by the sudden aggression of the stranger.

This incident marked the beginning of Travis’ unpredictable and dangerous behavior. What started as an experiment in raising a chimp as human ended in tragedy, as Travis' increasing aggression would eventually lead to a devastating event that shocked the world.
